CMSA concluded its January Conference 2010 in Washington, where market participants came together to eagerly look ahead for a brighter future and, as CMSA President Pat Sargent said in his remarks, begin our industry’s ‘recovery year.’

In fact, CMSA is delighted to report that more than 1,100 of you took part in the January 2010 event, marking a 56% increase in attendance compared to the January Conference in 2009.  Additionally, 25% of all attendees in Washington were attending their first CMSA event, a testament to CMSA’s attempt at broadening its base of constituencies.

Whether one was a veteran attendee or new to CMSA, all were working together to find solutions to returning liquidity and stability to the market and to hear panelists from across the market spectrum delve into two days of sessions to find common ground.

Among the many Conference highlights were the five Forum sessions, held Jan. 19, that gave participants the chance to focus on issues unique to their segment of the industry.  Going forward, CMSA will represent each of these market segments and will advocate for them when there is consensus and educate when there are differences.

CMSA’s General Sessions, as always, covered the market spectrum and provided meaningful dialogue for everyone.

We were also pleased to welcome FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair, who provided remarks to a standing-room only ballroom.  Ms. Bair was joined during the event by Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.), House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), all of whom spoke candidly about the current regulatory and legislative environment, and what can be expected in Washington this congressional term.

Our sincerest gratitude to everyone who took part in making this January Conference so successful.  We look forward to seeing you June 14-16 at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York for our 16th Annual Convention.
