What We Offer

Conferences & Events
CMSA hosts two key industry conferences and several quarterly seminars that cover the breadth of CRE finance and frequently allow members to hear first-hand the remarks of the nation’s policymakers.

New for 2010 will be ‘Forums’. Market participants will gather to build consensus and forge new business relationships. And Forums for 2010 also reflect the success of past “Investor Forums,” successful gatherings held during past CMSA Conferences – meetings that have witnessed 110% gains in attendance and as many as 1,500 participants.

Government Relations – Effective Regulatory and Legislative Advocacy
CMSA is an active resource for policymakers and regulators as they make the decisions to ensure the broader success of the commercial real estate finance market and its relationship to the overall global economy. It’s notable that our Government Relations advocacy will reflect a consensus from all our members and industry sectors, protecting and advancing a national policy agenda.

Past successes include provisions for CMBS’s inclusion in the Treasury and Federal Reserve’s TALF program, progress on REMIC reform, advocacy for fair-value Accounting and regular opportunities for members to testify before congressional lawmakers.

Going forward, CMSA Members will need to be informed and have their voices heard on White House Financial Regulatory Reform, Commercial Mortgage Banker/Broker regulation and barriers to CRE Industry Recapitalization and Recovery.

Additionally, a full agenda in Congress and this politically charged environment means CMSA members need representation on the particulars of new multi-family rental, residential apartment construction projects, reforms related to Real Estate Owned properties; systemic risk regulation and regulatory capital requirements. Have your opinions heard. Advocacy efforts are critical as the center of gravity shifts to the Nation’s Capital.

Industry Standards and Best Practices
Capitalizing and continuing on the global success of the CMSA Investor Reporting Package® and other ongoing initiatives CMSA knows the importance of market transparency.

CMSA IRP® provides an initial standardized set of bond, loan and property level information for all CMBS transactions. Transactions are updated monthly throughout the term of the bonds so investors, underwriters and rating agencies have the ability to analyze every loan within a CMBS deal. Launched in 1997 and regularly updated ever since, the IRP was developed by all constituencies within the CMBS marketplace to provide investors with consistent, standardized information. The success of the IRP in the United States has also led to the adoption of similar standards in both Europe and Japan.
